Stress & the Adrenal Glands-A VERY Common Problem

We were at a seminar a while back and the doctor teaching said, “Whenever you see a thyroid patient, always check adrenals and bowel as one of the underlying causes.”

He went on to say that when the adrenals are over-stimulated, the body will try to compensate via the hypothalamus-pituitary axis and ultimately affects the thyroid. In other words, it’s like the brakes are being applied to the thyroid. That’s why some patients are given thyroid medication or supplementation and feel great for a few months or even years but ultimately will return to their prior hypothyroid status.

Recently we saw some research on Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and it stated that one of the key principles to fix the thyroid is to address the adrenals. Increased cortisol can tilt the delicately balanced TH1/TH2 immune regulation. It also said that when someone sees their doctor for severe dermatitis or an inflammatory condition the usual and customary medical treatment is to give prednisone to reset the immune system. The research suggested that resetting the adrenals by using adaptogenic botanicals, like the ones in the Biotics product ADHS would be a wise step to take.

adrenal glands

So why are the adrenals and other endocrine glands not happy? People are under more emotional, physical, and mental pressures than we can imagine. Just because people don’t always express this doesn’t mean they are not experiencing it. If you listen close to conversations wherever you go, people are talking about being overwhelmed, exhausted, stretched to their limits, pushed at work, and relationships are strained. Remember stress comes in the form of chemical stress, mechanical stress, thermal stress, and emotional stress. And if you think a big workout will help…think again…If you have adrenal stress, too much exercise can be your downfall. Keep to light exercise and wait to get your adrenals back on track before signing up for a marathon.

Stress has a powerful effect on hormones. It can increase cortisol and catecholamines, decrease gonadotropins and sex hormones. Stress has also been correlated to reductions in TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and the conversion of T4 (correlates thyroid to heart) T3 (thyroid to kidneys). Also, the effects of stress can be seen in the increase of tissue resistance to hormones like T3, estrogen, androgens, insulin, and even cortisol.

The list of symptoms or conditions frequently associated with impaired adrenal function is too long to list. I will attach a questionnaire with a list of symptoms and you can see how it stacks up for yourself. They range from dizziness to depression, apprehension to auto-immune disease, inability to concentrate to the inability to hold adjustments, double mindedness, twitching muscles and pain along the lower rib line. If the thyroid is suffering due to the adrenals failing there’s another list of symptoms that can be involved…referred pain in the left shoulder, for instance. If you have ever had something like that occur and have gone to a chiropractor for help, you will find that the adjustments will be a waste of time as the pain is referred and not a true structural problem.

There are some simple in office tests that can be performed to assess adrenal insufficiency. So if you think that you may fit this category, book an advanced scan and we will see if this what’s causing your ills. With some changes in diet and a nutraceutical program to ‘reset’ the adrenals, you can be on the road to recovery.

Hypoadrenia Questionnaire

Hypothyroid Questionnaire

How do we treat the problem?…to start with we use only high quality nutraceuticals from Biotics Research, Standard Process and there are other great nutraceutical companies too. These products are sold by health care professionals so be wary if you see them online as they may not be what you think…another story!! Health food store products have nowhere near the strength to treat these kind of conditions

We may have to begin with a big boost to the adrenals with a pure adrenal glandular. Then we would move into using the adaptagen adrenal support that was mentioned earlier which is herbal (ADHS). We would likely support the Pituitary/Hypothalamus as well with a glandular. The thyroid would be supported with an amino, L-Tyrosine. L-Tyrosine is the synthetic form of a naturally occurring amino acid produced to stimulate thyroxine, the hormone produced by the thyroid gland. The body needs the amino acid Tyrosine for many functions. It is especially important in thyroid performance, and a lack of L-Tyrosine in the diet can create hypothyroid conditions.

It is also important to support the blood sugar and remove starches and sugars as much as possible from the diet. One of the reasons the adrenal glands become over reactive (and thus worn out) is to alkalize an overly acidic condition. By increasing the foods which have natural buffers and which have an alkaline ash will assist the process. It is essential that patients reduce their refined carbohydrate load (see sugar handling diet below) and increase their water ounces intake to 1/2 their body weight (200 lbs=100 oz/day). Make sure you add a squeeze of lime or lemon to your water the assist absorption.

We may also use Gammanol if there are muscular issues involved. Gammanol Forte with FRAC from Biotics supports muscles, hormones and the GI.

We wouldn’t necessarily do all of this with all clients as each case varies. Also, doses vary from person to person so don’t try to do this without guidance from a professional.

Hypoadrenia Protocol

1. Cytozyme AD or ADB5+ 6-12 per day before 4:00 for 28 days or as recommended by practitioner. After this period change to…
2. ADHS 2×2 (2am and 2 noon)
3. Cytozyme PT/HPT 3 to 6 per day
4. Glucobalance 3 to 9 per day
5. L-Tyrosine 3 to 6 per day
6. If muscle issues/can’t hold adjustments 3 to 6 Gammanol Forte per day

Sugar Control Diet

The following is a trial diet, designed to help recalibrate your bodies sugar control mechanisms, it will increase your energy and vitality. Please follow it very closely. It is not a healthy diet for all times, but it is beneficial for you during this trial period. As your condition improves, your health care practitioner may add back foods to your diet. This way of eating does take a little planning, but is well worth the effort. Most people will lose many of their unhealthy cravings within one or two weeks on this diet. Many who need to loose weight are pleased to find weight loss while on this diet, without being hungry. Others who need to gain weight often find weight return without undue effort.

PROTEIN: Each meal should include minimum 4 to 6 ounces of protein, but you can have as much as you desire. Meat, poultry, fish, and eggs are unlimited. Vegetarians may use soy and tofu items where no allergy exists. This is not ideal as soy isn’t the best for us but if you need to boost protein temporarily with soy then do so or ask us about Biotics Pea Protein Isolate.

VEGETABLES: Eat as much as you desire, you can’t eat too much here. Focus on dark leafy greens, and a variety of colors. No potatoes, yams, or other starchy vegetables.

FRUITS: Careful here, only to be eaten alone between meals as a snack. Leave the sweeter fruits such as bananas, mangoes, persimmons, papayas, dried fruits, etc. alone. One or two pieces of fruit per day should be plenty.

NUTS: Raw nuts, especially raw cashews make a great snack.

GRAINS: No wheat including breads, rolls, muffins and pasta. Only grain allowed is rice, and only at the evening meal. All rice should be roasted first before cooking. Place dry uncooked rice in pan and brown, some of the kernels will pop. Then cook as normal.

DAIRY: No dairy, unless specifically allowed by your doctor.

SWEETENERS: No sweeteners of any kind.

FATS: No artificial fats such as hydrogenated, or partially hydrogenated.

You must eat every 2 hours of the waking day. You need not eat a large volume of food at these snacks, just a fist full of nuts or a carrot or apple or something. No processed or packaged foods, eat only those foods as found in nature. Eat some vegetables raw every day such as salad, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Remember this is temporary. After this, a more well rounded approach can be followed like a vegetable based Paleo diet heavy on the raw food. Please ask us about this approach.

Cold Sores? Here’s Why…

RELATIONSHIP OF VITAMINS D AND F, WITH CALCIUM

MAJOR INVOLVEMENT: Calcium transport from the Gastro-Intestinal tract to the bloodstream.

MAJOR CONDITIONS: Rickets, calcium assimilation problems, nose bleeds, haemorrhage, delayed healing, lack of exposure to sun, hypo-tension (low blood pressure) and low blood and tissue calcium.

The issues behind the above vitamins and mineral are largely misunderstood.

sun12-240x240We know that very few people need Vitamin D in the form of a supplement as the ultraviolet rays from the sun convert skin oil to Vitamin D. Vitamin D picks up calcium from the gut and puts it into your blood. So, as long as you have some sun exposure, you will produce Vitamin D. That’s the first part of understanding these essential nutrients. The second part of the equation is found in Vitamin F, today known as Essential Fatty Acid (EFA). EFAs take calcium from the blood and put it into the tissues. Essential Fatty Acids are mainly found in oils. If deficient in these oils, calcium will not be delivered to the tissues.

So, Vitamin D takes the blood from the gut to the blood steam and EFAs take it to the tissues. Tissues include organs and not just your skin.

A person chronically low in EFAs, may experience sunstroke. Sunstroke involves high blood calcium levels with low tissue calcium levels. Excess Vitamin D from extreme exposure to the sun is known to cause cancer. You might have read articles that say you should stay out of the sun, that sunshine is hazardous to health. Well, it’s only dangerous to people who are EFA deficient. The Vitamin F part of EFA is the polyunsaturated fatty acid found in meats and butter as examples. It is not found in vegetable oil. And by the way, margarine is a phony food. It starts as good oil, but when hydrogenation is introduced it is converted into stearic acid, which is a hard saturated fat. (Hmmm, hardening of the arteries?)

Calcium is a salt mineral with two positive charges. It is a major factor in skin health. Its presence in our skin protects us from outside contaminants such as bacteria, fungus, parasites and viruses. Low “tissue” calcium levels in skin can result in intense ITCHING. This can increase to HIVES, CANKER SORES, COLD SORES (really a hot sore) , and if you have the HERPES virus (as 98.9% of the North American population has) mucous tissues in the lips or genital and anal area can develop painful WELTS OR BLISTERS. Overworking, overstressing or overdoing anything can lower the blood calcium levels even further, resulting in fatigue and exhaustion. And “pop”, out comes the blisters.
The above conditions respond quickly with the administration of bio-available calcium.

Calcium is the 5th most abundant element in the earth’s crust and biosphere and is essential to all earth life forms. The late Paleolithic Period of 35,000 to 10,000 years ago was the most recent time our human forebearers lived in the bios for which they had been bio-chemically designed. The agricultural revolution occurred 10,000 years ago reducing the wide variety of wild foods in the human food chain. This change spread universally and forever decreased man’s dietary intake of minerals, trace minerals and rare earth minerals. In the 20th century adults have only 1/3rd this calcium intake.

There are no less than 147 deficiency diseases attributed to calcium imbalances. Some include osteoporosis, receding gums, arthritis, high blood pressure, insomnia, cramps, twitches, PMS, Bell’s Palsy and panic attacks. Bone spurs and calcium deposits at the sites of insertion of tendons and ligaments (bursitis, tendonitis, myofascitis (fibromyalgia) are a result of calcium deficiency in trauma areas.

Calcium also is required for the release of energy from ATP for muscles to contract. It aids in blood clotting, mediates the transport function of cell membranes to send thoughts and actions and mediates the synthesis of hormones.

Calcium deficiencies can come from a diet high in phytates found in the stems of many plants such as oatmeal and whole wheat. Oxalic acids found in cooked rhubarb, spinach, tomatoes and fruits (such as pies), peanuts, pop, deli meats and processed foods (ask us for a chart) binds with calcium to form an insoluble sludge, calcium oxalate which can lead to gout, arthritis and stones. Pharmaceutical drugs such as diuretics result in decreased absorption of calcium. Excess of caffeine can leach calcium from the bones.

Sufficient acid in our stomach sets up calcium absorption. This acid is developed from salt in our diet. A diet low in salt will result in less acid. Less acid, less calcium absorption equals lactose intolerance all the way to celiac disease.

It was the medical profession 50 years ago that said to reduce salt and fat intake. They neglected to inform the public of what kind of salt and fat (in reality, the food conglomerates gave them limited information). We listened; they were ‘our’ doctors after all. But, they were never trained in nutrition, only pharmacology. It was the food industry that influenced the medical profession to become their spoke-persons for marketing programs and the concept that you can get all your requirements from the four food groups. Even so, the food conglomerates still take away and then add artificial vitamins and minerals to warehouse foods. Even present day baby formulas have much less supplements in them than dog food!

Reduction of salt in the diet leads to loss of calcium and increase in blood pressure to compensate = HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

Reduction of fat in the diet leads to loss of insulation and dehydration occurs. In the brain, this is called Alzheimers. We didn’t see this terrible condition until the phase of low-fat diets. We need the good fats. Notice how the companies are quick to say they have reduced their bad fats in warehouse foods (packaged)? And what are these fats called? Yes, trans fats. Are you starting to see the bigger picture?

Note: It is interesting that of all our skin colour variations, there are four areas on the body the same in all races. Check it out! Whether you are white, black, brown, yellow, olive, red, etc in skin colour, the palms of your hands and soles of your feet are pinky-white. Ever wonder why?!!! These are solar panels for the invisible spectrums of light. This light reflects through the solar panels in our palms and soles and results in an internal rainbow. This rainbow of light or colour energy innervates the relationship amongst the organs. We vibrate and emote colour. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is really called HEALTH.

We need a mere three minutes of sun on our palms to ‘charge’ up. So, everyday, get some rays and get “charged”.

This is the first of our L.A.W.S. of Life, that of L or Light from our white star, the sun.

Tough Thyroid Cases

Overview of the thyroid system (See Wikipedia:...

Dr. David Brownstein estimates over 40% of Americans have suboptimal thyroid function.  Some say it’s close to 80%. Part of this can be attributed to our food supply and the lack of minerals in the soil but there are other contributing factors.

First of all, how do you know that you have a thyroid problem? Blood tests aren’t always conclusive so we use a temperature test. Download a Thyroid Temperature Chart so you can record your basal temperature. Also, here are some symptoms that might help you determine if this is something you should look into.

Hyperthyroid Symptoms (overactive)

Racing heart or increased heart rate, nervousness, tremor, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, increased problems sleeping, excessive weight loss, excessive sweating, and elevated basal temperature over 98.2. Dr. Broda Barnes (a reknowned researcher of thyroid dysfunction) said if the basal temperature went over 98.2 an immediate reduction in therapy is indicated. In his case he reduced the desiccated porcine thyroid.

Hypothyroid Symptoms (low function) Hypothyroid Questionnaire

Fatigue, morning headaches that wear off during the day, increase in weight, sensitivity to cold (rule out anemia and atherosclerosis), dry brittle hair, hair that falls out easily, dry, scaly or itching skin, reduced initiative, mental confusion, poor memory, low axillary temperature (below 97.8), muscle cramps at rest, reduced immune function, edema especially facial (myxedema), constipation, loss of outside portion of eyebrows, breast, ovarian or uterine cysts/fibroids, increase in serum lipids, increase or decrease in blood pressure, tinnitus, impaired hearing, depression, premature grey hair, red hair, type 1 diabetes, B-12/folate anemia, and vitiligo.

Adrenal Function Hypoadrenia Questionnaire

Additional symptoms of adrenal deficiency include feeling hot all the time, palpitations, low blood pressure (systolic of 100 or less), very slender build, dizziness (especially on standing up quickly), severe allergies, anxiety and feelings of impending doom, hypoglycemia, arthritis, weakness and fatigue after exercise, muscle twitching. There is an overlap between the symptoms resulting from hypothyroidism and adrenal insufficiency. Sometimes it is necessary to support the adrenal glands and thyroid simultaneously. For example, we’ve found clinically that when you place a patient on correct thyroid support, their basal metabolic rate increases and as a result of this, their utilization of minerals increases dramatically. In other words, they begin to utilize them correctly rather than storing them in soft tissue, arteries, the intercostals spaces, the aorta, etc.

*Very often if a person is calcium or magnesium insufficient when beginning treatment for the thyroid and aches and pains are present, they will exacerbate. Iron and copper (Fe/CU) free Multi-Mins at 3-5 tablets twice a day will generally take care of the aches, pains and cramps in a week or so.

Here are two cases that are not often associated with hypothyroidism: sleep apnea and elevated homocysteine. The Southern Medical Journal connected sleep apnea and thyroid hypofunction many years ago. In their report once the thyroid hypofunction was resolved, the sleep apnea resolved. Not all cases of sleep apnea are thyroid related, but it’s worth checking out.

Homocysteine, known as homocystinuria is an indication of B complex deficiency, mainly, folate, B-12, B-6, betaine and recent information indicates certain gene types need B-2 as well. There is a strong correlation between thyroid hypofunction and increased levels of homocysteine. Obviously when homocysteine is increased, dietary changes and supplementation with Bio-B Complex and Beta-TCP is certainly required.

By the way, the Beta-TCP is used for the betaine, also called trimethylglycine. Some companies use the term beta and some use the term trimethylglycine, however both are betaine.  The betaine used by Biotics Research is concentrated from organic beets and is called Beta TCP.

The conversion from T-4 to the active molecule T-3 is dependent upon selenium, iodine, glutathione, zinc, copper and a host of other nutrients and this is why Biotics Research put Meda-Stim into their line. The product Meda-Stim is used to assist with the T-4 to T-3 conversion. Some doctors have called it “one of the best supplemental products available in the country.”

Also, excess cortisol and use of exogenous estrogen will to some degree, interfere with the conversion of T-4 to T-3, therefore any person with adrenal cortical hyperfunction or any person on exogenous estrogen should be checked to determine if they are making the T-4 to T-3 conversion. A common pattern seen with under-conversion is a free T-4 above the midline of the lab range with a free T-3 below the midline of the lab range. When this pattern is present, Meda-Stim is needed.

Here are some other factors that block this conversion.

Here’s a clinical pearl especially useful for resistant cases. Dr. George Goodheart years ago found that cellular resistance to T-3 can often be overcome with RNA using Nuclezyme-Forte at 2 capsules, three times a day or in some cases with riboflavin using Bio-GGG-B at 2 capsule, three times a day.

Another reason why people may not respond to the appropriate treatment is thyroid hormone resistance. Their lab tests are normal but still have hypothyroid symptoms. In other words their Free T4 and Free T3 are above the lab median so the conversion from T4 to T3 has been made but somehow the receptor sites have been blocked. This could be caused by competitive binding of the receptor sites.

Here are some of the factors causing competitive binding and thus thyroid resistance: Bisphenol A, found in many plastics and reusable water containers (a study of 394 adults detected BPA in 95% of urine samples); perchlorate, found in ground water; triclosan, used as an anti-bacterial, antifungal agent in soaps, toothpaste, skin care products, and fabrics (detected in 75% of urine samples especially those with the highest income); PCBs, outlawed in 1979 due to their half life are still in the environment; PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), not outlawed and are used as flame retardants in carpet, foam and building materials (detected in meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products, indoor air and household dust).

In some cases, a person’s symptoms and lab tests are normal after a detox. The detox process re-sensitizes the receptor sites and their own thyroid hormones work better. Never underestimate the value of clean food and water and an intentional avoidance of household toxins. Even diabetes patients can need less glucose support after a detox.

So if you’re doing all the right things and still not better, implement the 3-Step Detox from Biotics.

ITS TIME TO FEEL GOOD AGAIN

Dietary Recommendations

Eliminate refined carbohydrates, dairy, gluten and processed foods. Reduce total daily carbohydrate intake if the patient is overweight to 60 gram or less. Eliminate food in the cabbage family, soy, red clover, the skin from poultry, fatty beef, cosmetics containing estrogen and millet. Use only pure water (no well or city water). Increase oil and quality protein. If an increase in dietary protein causes gas and/or bloating, add Betaine Plus HP at 1 capsule in the middle of the meal (increase every third day until the patient experiences a slight burning in their stomach and then reduce).

Additional Notes and Nutrients to Consider

Selenium 200-400 mcg: Se-Zyme Forte provides 100 mcg of a food based selenium.

Iron – make sure ferritin is over 100 for men and 130 for women but under 200. Fe-Zyme provides 25 mg of iron as well as 8 mg of zinc and 2 mg of copper.

Iodine/ Iodide – Iodizyme-HP 1 tablet per day supplies 12.5 mg.

EFAs for cell membrane integrity. Optimal EFAs is a mixture of organic GLA, ALA and EPA/DHA from small fish. Use 3 capsules, twice a day

Magnesium 600-1000 mg – Mg-Zyme supplies 100 mg of aspartate, gluconate and glycinate,

Aqua Mag-Cl supplies 200 mg per tsp. (Due to a salty taste it must be mixed with juice to increase patient compliance.)

Porcine glandular: Biotics Research has the only porcine glandular on the market called GTA. GTA by law has to have the thyroxine removed; however, it has many of the co-factors necessary to feed the thyroid and enhance physiology. GTA has 5 mg of porcine thyroid with trace amounts of selenium, rubidium and SOD and catalase, GTA-Forte II has 20 mg of porcine thyroid with zinc, selenium, copper, rubidium, with SOD and catalase.

Dr. Broda Barnes used 1 grain or 60 mg and added ½ grain or 30 mg every month until the patient bloomed. Dr. Starr found out that sometimes the recommendation of desiccated porcine thyroid made patients worse. This may happen to patients with severe allergies, chemical sensitivities and chronic pain. These were the patients that needed the therapy the most and yet due to toxins and nutrient deficiencies patients would have an aggravation of symptoms. At these times therapy would have to be reduced and then a detox would be instigated. You see, environmental toxins interfere with thyroid as well as other hormonal functions. If the receptor sites of the cell are already full or blocked, then the body will signal a heightened or alarmed state. Therapeutically we need to explain the process and go back to the basics of clean food and some form of detoxification. So in some cases, starting with a detox may be the best way to go.

Are You Out of Your Mind?

thiamineARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?   Can’t sleep, crave sugar.?

This could be an acid problem, no not stomach acid, but pyruvic acid. Never heard of it?

Do you experience drowsiness after a meal, urinating several times a night?  Do you feel a tight band around your head, difficulty holding your breath, yawning, fatigue, bloating? Poor appetite, really sore after exercising, burning in the soles of you feet?  All these symptoms can be the result of too much pyruvic acid in your system.

Pyruvic acid is a residue of incomplete carbohydrate metabolism, basically too many carbs in your diet for your digestive system to handle.  You’re eating too many sweets or starches that convert to sugar.  A decent diet will contain the necessary nutrient that removes this acid, thiamine pyrophosphate.  See those first four letters … pyro, yes to burn.  Like a pyromaniac who likes to light fires, thiamine pyrophosphate aka Vitamin B1 handles the burning up of this acid.If not, you might have burning in your feet or the most common side effect  SCIATICA.  This is when the pyruvic acid builds up on the head of nerves. And the head of the sciatic nerve is the size of your baby finger.

If this acid gets into general circulation and enters the brain, the inflammatory reaction here starts with the band around your head from the acid in the cerebrospinal fluid that your brain floats in. This worsens into depression, anxiety, a fear of doom and gloom, don’t want to leave home and weird sounds and sights disturb your senses.

For a malnourished drug addict this comes up as seeing bugs crawling under the skin with sensations like ants biting (formication). What do they do about it? They try cut them out. They call them ‘coke’ (cocaine)  bugs!

Dietary sources are grains, pasta, rice, etc. which if you are gluten-gliadin sensitive defeats the purpose and chronic deficiency requires supplementation.  We recommend Biotics Thiamin B 50 to start with.  You need to take enough to loosen the bowels which means you have activated the removal of the pyruvic acid. Once there is relief, switch to Bio GGGB for 90 days. And watch those symptoms disappear.

We believe this is the cause of FM or Fibro-Myalgia.

Salt of the Earth

Dr. DiffRANT  likes to use the acronym   LAWS   to talk health.

L is for Light,  A is for Air,  Wis for Water and   S is for Soil.  Today we talk Soil.

farm

Driving with my Dad as a young boy in Saskatchewan, we saw areas where the land was white.  I touched it and it was not snow, it was however very salty.  Dad explained that the land had gone alkali.  This was gathered, mounded and used as a base for ponds in which brine shrimp were grown. The shrimp were used in fertilizers to restore the land.

In other words the land was ‘dehydrated’.

Skip forward to 2009 and a survey of thousands of patients revealed three conditions that preceded disease states.  Number three was brain stress, number two stomach malfunctions and number three,  dehydration.

About dehydration; if someone was stranded and without water for several days, the rescue team would not give water to drink, but an IV solution containing salt.  The same for our earth, water runs off a dehydrated area.  The soil requires salt minerals to capture the water.  And so do we!

Our rehydrating minerals come from the earth into plants which we consume. But not all soil contains these minerals.  And many of the minerals are not equally distributed, many are found in veins.

PROBLEM:  The continent of North America is nearing 90% depletion of minerals.   If soil goes below 2% in salt known as humic acid (shale) there will not be adequate transfer of nutrients for the plant and it will die.  So, what do we do, we supplement (fertilize) the soil, but only with 3 of the 77 essentials (NPK).  The old settlers knew the best chance of survival was to build near the rivers where floodwaters gave the soil its minerals.  I grew up near a creek and Grandpa bought the land closest to it; the runoff came from the Cypress mountain range.  Grandma’s garden was always the most productive and beautiful.

EFFECTDeficiencies of minerals can result in such conditions as scoliosis and cystic fibrosis, a lack of selenium, varicose veins and aneurysms, lack of copper, ADD, diabetes, depression from a lack of chromium, arthritis and high blood pressure, a lack of calcium, loss of libido and miscarriage from lack of manganese.  How about Pr or praseodymium, a light rare earth mineral which enhances cell growth and proliferation and has been shown to double the life span of laboratory animals.  And the list goes on.

Down’s syndrome, cleft palate, hernias, all a lack of zinc, dermatitis and anemia, a lack of nickel, tremors and vertigo, a lack of magnesium.  Some of you might remember our duck Quark, kicked out by mother duck, rescued by us and grew an angel wing, a slipped tendon (chondrodystrophy) a deficiency in manganese.  In humans it is known as carpal tunnel and TMJ.

ANSWER:     Simple, just  rehydrate the soil!  As the saying goes; that’s easier said  than done!  To rehydrate or remineralize the planet for just one year, we would need to grind up the equivalent mass of Mount Loa and spread it onto the land.   What is doable is to find the veins of earth minerals still available.

The minerals are found in humic shale.  Humic shale originated 75 million years ago and contained as many as 84 minerals.  It was this rich supply in planets that allowed trees to grow at 25 feet per year and provide the animals with bulk upwards of 70,000 pounds, the thunder lizard or brontosaurus.  The entombed humic shale never fossilized or petrified, but remained compressed.  It can be extracted and processed for human consumption.

Supplements are available all over the marketplace.

Through our affiliation with several institutes we have found a humic shale tested by NIH (National Institute of Health) and will be making it available soon.  It is called Terratol, after terroir or terre as in earth.  We are particularly interested in its cell conductivity properties to open the cell for increased utilization of our products.  Added to that is its ability to remove viral contaminants.

We just can’t get enough minerals and trace minerals from our depleted foods. And maybe we just haven’t listened.  In 1936 US Senate document #264, published by the second session of the 73 rd  Congress stated:  the alarming fact is that food being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough minerals, are starving us – no matter how much of them we eat!

Let’s listen to the soil of our planet and the earth of our bodies; the symptoms are the same.  The cure is to replace and rehydrate.

Next blog will be on W for water.  Stay in touch

Calcium Prevents Osteoporosis But Can You Absorb It?

calciumCalcium prevents osteoporosis! So let’s all take more calcium, right? Not necessarily. We can ingest calcium but if we don’t have the synergistic factors for absorption and digestion it can cause more harm than good.

How can too much calcium cause harm? First let’s remember if you don’t have the proper pH in your stomach, it doesn’t matter what form of calcium you take it’s not going to be fully utilized. Minerals must be cleaved from their substrate, ionized and then attached to amino acids for transport and absorption. Hydrochloric acid decreases as we age, subsequently osteoporosis is more prevalent as we age due to the lack of all minerals not just calcium. More and more clinicians are discovering that “over the counter” and prescription antacids as well as stomach acid blocking agents are creating serious problems. By decreasing physiologic levels of hydrochloric acid, the mineral availability of our already mineral depleted diets is further compromised.

What happens when we get too much calcium or calcium in an unusable form? Calcium abnormalities show up as bone spurs, kidney stones, and calcium deposits on mammograms and heart scans. The lack of proper absorption of calcium can cause calcium deposits which are related to osteoporosis, heart disease and heart attack. Remember too much calcium can push out or displace other minerals like magnesium and potassium which are two essential minerals for heart health.

Commonly, white specks on finger nails are considered to be “zinc deficiency” spots. I think they are indicative of a general malabsorption of minerals. A veteran nutritionist at Biotics Research shared that she had numerous specks on her nails for years despite zinc supplementation. She also had calcium deposits on her knuckles but found that when the calcium deposits were eliminated all the white specks on her nails disappeared She also saw this pattern with her patients as she changed people’s diets and fixed digestion.  She came to this conclusion by accident many years ago when she first noticed calcium deposits on several of her knuckles. They not only hurt but were unsightly. She also had a mammogram which revealed numerous calcium deposits. She had always had digestive problems including heartburn, hiatal hernia, and lack of hydrochloric acid in her stomach. She started taking Hydro-Zyme, a HCL supplement. Hydro-Zyme contains 2 mg vitamin B6, 150 mg Betaine Hydrochloride, 10 mg Pancreatin 4x (from porcine), 10 mg Pepsin, 50 mg Glutamic Acid and 35 mg Ammonium Chloride.

She also added Betaine Plus HP, a high potency hydrochloric acid supplement, to correct her heart burn, and other digestive and absorption problems. Within approximately 6 months all the calcium deposits on her fingers were gone. She’s never had them since. That’s amazing!

She continues to take a small dose of Hydro-Zyme, 1 with each meal and large doses of the Betaine Plus HP, 4-6 per meal. Her digestive issues are corrected and her nails are stronger and grow faster with no “zinc spots.”

She also spoke about her son-in-law “Bob,” and his family history of kidney stones. Each of the six members of his family had gone through numerous painful episodes. After he experienced three bouts with kidney stones within a year, he decided to try to do something about the calcium utilization problem. By taking 2 Hydro-Zyme with each meal, the kidney stone formation stopped and he has been pain free for over three years. Due to the kidney stones and white spots on his nails, my associate encouraged Bob to get a heart scan. His cardiologist was amazed to see calcium deposits on someone only 34 years of age.

So what are the causes? The major causes of poor calcium utilization are: drinking carbonated beverages (also one of the major causes of obesity), a lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and antacid use. In fact it is EXTREMELY rare to have too much acid…it just feels like too much acid when it really is too little. See our website for a video on GERD or Acid Reflux.

No wonder we have a calcium problem with all the antacids and acid blockers prescribed and taken by a majority of people. The body is trying to tell us something when we get indigestion, poor growth of hair and nails, and certainly as things like bone spurs, kidney stones or calcium deposits are detected.

We need to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Why wait for something serious to develop. Pay attention to the signs early; make a habit of looking at your nails. Do they have spots, do they crack and peel? Do you have calcium deposits around your joints? Many of you are taking calcium, that’s a good thing. Now let’s make sure you have all the correct co-factors and digestive ability to utilize it. As in many conditions, we see the need for adequate levels of hydrochloric acid.

Day Light Savings Can be Detrimental to Your Health

spring forwardI was just noticing that daylight savings is already upon us. As much as we all welcome having longer days as it heralds in the spring and summer, there are some concerns you should be aware of.

Dr. Mercola has posted a very interesting article about this that I really felt I should share with you. I posted the link on our Face Book page.

Basically, the stats are that there are more heart attacks, suicides and car accidents on the Monday/week following DLT. There is also less productivity. Go to our Face Book page and follow the link to Dr. Mercola’s story and video. It’s very interesting. If you like what you see, ‘Like’ us:

Actually you probably won’t like what you hear about this phenomenon but there are some things that you can do to safe guard.

Safe Guards for the Spring-Forward

University of Alabama Associate Professor Martin Young suggests the following natural strategies to help your body resync after the time change:

1. Wake up 30 minutes earlier on Saturday and Sunday, to minimize the impact of getting up earlier on Monday morning (Your kidding, right? No, I’m kidding…it’s only ½ an hour and it will really help.)

2. Eat a nutritious breakfast (not cold cereal- Chuck that stuff out!) See NIN attachment for my nutrition book-a gift:)

3. Go outside in the sunlight in the early morning (raise your palms up to the light to absorb it well-they are your solar panels.)

4. Exercise in the mornings over the weekend, in accordance with your overall level of health and fitness (walking is good)

5. Consider setting your clock ahead on Friday evening, allowing an extra day to adjust over the weekend (just make sure you don’t show up for you appointments late. LOL)

In addition:

Pay attention to your diet, making sure you are consuming plenty of fresh, whole foods, preferably organic, and minimal amounts of processed foods and fast foods; keep your sugar consumption very low, especially fructose. Use good fats like coconut oil, red palm oil, olive oil or organic butter.

Practice good sleep hygiene, including sleeping in complete darkness, checking your bedroom for EMFs, and keeping your bedroom temperature no higher than 70 degrees. See the attachment about the underlying causes of sleep loss. We have EMF protectors available if you think you need them too.

Optimize your vitamin D levels. We use Biotics Research Bio D Mulsion Forte.

Manage your stress with whatever stress-busting techniques work for you. We have a stress test to determine your stressor type if you need help with this.

Consider supplementing with melatonin if you have trouble sleeping. We can get Insomnia HP (homeopathic drops) from Dr. Clarke at BioActives or VHP (valerian, hops, passion flower) from Biotics as some people feel hung over using Melatonin.
